Newspaper Ramadan Competition on Personal Status Issues to Bahraini Women
In 2007, the Bahrain Women's Union along with a number of writers organized a newspaper competition during Ramadan on personal status issues. The competition consisted of a series of articles that defined the terms and articles of the draft personal status law in order to raise awareness of the substance of the law and the importance of enacting it. An article was published every few days, each ending with a question that readers could answer to win a prize in the competition. The competition aimed to raise awareness of the importance of personal status law through a series of articles during the holy month of Ramadan, attract citizens’ attention to the existence of a campaign to enact a law in accordance with Shari‘a, and increase public support for the idea of enacting a law that treats women fairly in accordance with Shari‘a.
