Women's Rights in Light of Personal Status Law and Kuwaiti Parliamentary Elections Workshop

Freedom House, in partnership with the Women's Cultural and Social Society and the United Nations Development Fund for Women, conducted a workshop to present and analyze the findings of the Kuwaiti Parliamentary Elections Survey Report, which surveyed males and females on their voting preferences and priorities in regards to women's rights and family law. During the workshop, the findings of the survey were discussed, in addition to Kuwait's citizenship laws, the importance of raising awareness among the public on the personal status law, negative stereotypes of women in leadership, and the importance of women's empowerment in political life. Approximately 30 representatives from women’s civil society organizations, the media, members of Parliament and lawyers attended.  Participants developed an action plan for civil society to work collectively on reforming Kuwait's family law, effectively laying the foundation for a coordinated effort among the various parties represented.
