First Gulf Forum on Women's Rights and Family Law

In March 2008, the Women's Cultural and Social Society, Freedom House and the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) hosted the First Gulf Forum on Women's Rights and Family Law for ministers, parliamentarians, scholars, lawyers, and activists from the Gulf region. The Forum launched the theoretical portion of the Women's Rights in the Kuwaiti Personal Status Law and the Bahrain Shari'a Judicial Rulings publication, prepared by a group of legal and Shari's experts from Kuwait and Bahrain. The Forum also marked the conclusion of the Family Law awareness campaign launched by the Women's Cultural and Social Society called Nourek Kanounek, "Your Law is Your Light", which aimed at raising women's awareness of their rights in the Kuwaiti Family Law through a TV public service announcement, billboards, and talk shows.
