Second Gulf Forum on Women's Rights and Family Law

In March 2009, the Women’s Cultural and Social Society and Freedom House hosted the Second Gulf Forum on Women's Rights and Family Law which brought together stakeholders from across the Gulf including activists, judges, lawyers and scholars as well as civil society and government officials to discuss issues and strategies for the expansion of women's rights within the region.  The opening of the two-day conference covered issues ranging from women's involvement in the judiciary system, women's nationality and citizenship rights and the family law. The findings of the Gulf portion of the Women's Rights in the Middle East and North Africa report was released during the forum.  In addition, the Forum included a brief presentation of the strategies from the practical portion of the Women's Rights in the Kuwaiti Personal Status Law and the Bahraini Shari'a Judicial Rulings.
